22 Year old young man uses R350 grant to start chicken empire – now owns 300 birds 😱🐓

What started as a humble R350 SASSA grant has turned into a booming chicken empire for local hustler, Mpho “The Clucker” Mokoena, from Tembisa. Residents are calling it the ultimate kasi glow-up story.

According to Mpho, he received his SASSA grant and decided not to spend it on the usual airtime or groceries. “I said to myself, bru, I’m tired of being broke. I bought 5 chickens and some feed, thinking maybe I can sell eggs on the side,” he said.

Fast forward six months, and Mpho now owns over 300 birds, a small chicken shed, and a loyal customer base in the township. “People call me every morning asking for eggs and chicken. I even started delivering on foot, sometimes using a wheelbarrow,” he laughed. “From R350 to hundreds of chickens… God is good, bru.”

Neighbours are shocked. “He started small, just a few chickens in the backyard, now it looks like a mini farm!” said one resident. “Some people even jokingly call him the ‘Chicken King of Tembisa.’”

Social media has been buzzing about Mpho’s success. TikTok and Facebook clips show him feeding hundreds of chickens, counting eggs, and interacting with customers. “It’s inspiring, bru. Shows you don’t need a fancy loan or investors. Just hustle smart,” commented one user.

Experts say Mpho’s story is a prime example of micro-business success using grant money. “It’s all about creativity and reinvesting your profits. Mpho saw a need, filled it, and now he’s thriving,” said business consultant Thabo Mthethwa.

Mpho has plans to expand even further. “Next step, I want to open a small shop selling chicken meals and eggs. Maybe even supply local taverns. The sky is the limit,” he said.
For now, he continues waking up at 4 a.m. daily to feed his flock, care for the birds, and keep the business running smoothly. And locals? They’re just enjoying the ultimate kasi glow-up story, proof that hustle + creativity = success, even with just R350.
